INFORMATION FOR VISITORS

GENERAL

The Wizard Inn around 1900Parking: use the National Trust Car Park (see map below) at SJ 85950 77236 (Lat: 53.291896N, Long: -2.212238W  What3words: ///rear.wizard.pizza.).  The nearest postcode is SK10 4UB.  The car park is free to National Trust members or costs £7 for over 3 hours or £4 for up to 3 hours.   Trips to the mines will always last longer than 2 hours from arriving in the car park to leaving.

Parking for evening trips: Use the National Trust car park and we will open and close the gates.  If the main gate is closed, there is a side entrance opposite the tea rooms; turn down the track beside the Wizard and then be prepared to turn sharp right into a narrow pathway.

Coaches: The car park cannot normally accommodate coaches but minibuses are accepted.  If you are travelling in a coach, then you must contact the National Trust in advance.

Meeting place:  We normally meet visitors in the car park.  If your visit is on an Open Day, make your own way to the reception tent.  If the plan is to meet somewhere else, this will be arranged in advance by your guide.

Refreshments (1):  The tea room is open in the summer Monday - Friday: 9 am - 5 pm, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays: 10 am - 5 pm serving teas, coffees, cakes and light snacks.  Winter times may be different.  The tea room also offers a take-away service.

Refreshments (2):  An ice cream van from Granelli's of Macclesfield is on the car park most days of the year.

Refreshments (3):  The Wizard Inn is sadly closed now.

Picnicking:  A picnic area is available between the car park and the tea rooms.  This has tables and seats in a grassed area.  Dogs not allowed.

Toilets: Apart from the toilets for the use of clients of the tea room, there are public toilets in the car park.  There are no toilets in the mines or at the Open Weekend sites.

Litter:  Please take all litter home - including dog poo - as the National Trust does not provide any bins.

Mining museum: Opened by DCC members when required or when someone is available to attend the museum at a weekend.

Maps of the Edge:  Some walk maps are available from the National Trust Office for £1 each.  There is also a map of the walks at the side of the path leaving the car park.

Dogs:  The Edge is very popular with dog walkers and we allow dogs underground.  If you want to bring your dog underground, please think about the other visitors and keep your dog on a lead at all times.  Also, please make sure any dog poo is taken home as there are no litter bins on the site.  Be aware that as a public open space, Cheshire East Civil Enforcement Officers may be on site from time to time and can issue a spot fine to anyone not acting responsibly with their dog or allowing their dog to leave poo in the woods.

National Trust office: For queries beyond these, the National Trust office is staffed five days a week and can be contacted on 01625 584412 or by email:
